@admin

Sorry I would have thought there was a larger price difference for non 4g and half of the ram + rom, I would like the same amount of ram + rom as the other unit.  When does the 4g unit ship for someone just purchasing it?  The biggest question I have is if there is a way to get someone to test that it works on a Joying unit and is able to run the apps, I already bought 2 paper weights with Car Dongle's that they are unable to make work.  Don't want to make that mistake again, any way we can do that?

Mike, can't tell you anything regarding buying, I'm sure Donny will jump in. And because I have no Joying unit I can't try. But I have some short reminders:

CarBotics relies on Apple CarPlay to connect to a head unit (CarDongle needs Android Auto).

If you are able to connect an iPhone to your Joying CarBotics will work too.

Apple CarPlay is much more reliable compared to Android Auto (which is a bit tricky - see CarDongle). Think about Carbotics works as an extension to your head unit and the connection software should work like a "bus system" (fast and reliable).

You don't need to insert a SIM card into Carbotics to get it to work. But being future proof doesn't harm either ;-). Go for the 4G version.

Bye for now  Fred

Thanks for the response, it does have Car Play from their factory so I guess it should work. I'm sorry I would really like to find out before I order since it is basically the price of the head units themselves.  Sorry for being gun shy its just that I spent around the same money for 2 similar products that are paper weights to me

Now that the 2 weeks have passed, any more info?  I would really prefer to test this before buying so I don't get burned again, but I can say if you let me be a tester I can get many people interested from the Joying head units who want more ability from their current units that I would be able to network for you.

Have no better information for you (not having a Joying to try). @Donny? But I thought about your problem:

Any modern Joying head unit runs fully blown Android (7, 8, 9, even 10). Most of them can be rooted (example: SC9853i or here) which gives you some "freedom". Because of the fact, that these units run full blown Android you can connect a wired adapter ( https://www.carlinkit.store/collections/android-screen-dedicated/products/carlinkit-wireless-smart-link-apple-carplay-dongle-for-android-navigation-player-mini-usb-carplay-stick-with-android-auto ) between CarBotics and Joying and it will work for sure. If direct link will work I can't tell, I don't know how accurate the implementation of Apple CarPlay is...

@ap756

Thank you for the attempt but none of the 3 links open into anything for me, I have never rooted anything but thought my Joying units made that more difficult or impossible for some reason.  But honestly I don't know enough to comment on

Corrected the third link. This needs no rooted head unit and will work as described above.

Bye for now. Fred

So I would need to buy both to make it work?

Mike, I'm quite sure it will work this way as long as your the Android on your Joying is able to use USB connection (which will be the case). Reason for my assumption: My "test bench" - see photo - where I run Android 9 on my Notebook connected to CarBotics via Carlinkit.

Side note: If sometimes in future you'll revive your Cardongle this might be the smarter solution, because Cardongle just needs Android Auto protocols to connect. CarBotics needs CarPlay to connect, that's the big difference. From your description I assume that your Joying doesn't fully support CarPlay...

My Joying unit has both Android Auto and Car Play, but still will not work.  I can connect the CarDongle to a laptop as it is and it works with the simulation software they recommend but connecting to the Joying does not work for some reason.

Wow Mike, every time we write there are new aspects 🙂. Only positive fact is that now we know the problem is with your Joying. Is there an update for your Joying, can you contact them for a refund? For me it sounds like your USB port doesn't support what Joying told you, neither Apple Carplay, nor Android Auto. To solve this is a Joying task. Sorry, I think there is no solution which makes sense right now. I don't advice to invest in another dongle, they all won't work with your current setup 😔.

Bye for now  Fred

Actually it isn't a Joying issue though, because while I don't have Carplay to verify it does work but I can say that the Android Auto works fine

Mike, hope your presumption is correct. Let us know the type of your Joying, I'll try to get some additional information. But without getting my hands on a comparable unit I can't give any further useful support.

That's why I attached a pic, that is the Joying 13.3" unit having my phone connected through Android Auto

Impressive hardware, Mike. I think I envy you 😉. This unit should be current enough to run any hardware extension. BUT I didn't found any technical data regarding USB port. Old USB specifications state nominal 500 mA, CarBotics need up to 1000 mA. The chance that your Joying just deliveres these 500 mA and not more is 50/50. Can you measure the output? Or just try a Y-cable to feed in some extra power.

On the other hand: What do you expect from CarBotics, which is not already implemented in your Joying? To make a joke: This remembers me to a guy who wears braces and belt at the same time. Let me know which function is missing and I'll try to find a solution.

Bye for now Fred

Appreciate it, if you look 2 posts up the second picture shows the CarDongle connected to a powered USB hub to be sure it is getting enough power.  That was one of the troubleshooting issues someone suggested.  That is my problem both units I have already have more RAM/ROM than most anything out there, but they do not allow Bluetooth connection with non Joying products or a phone.  I want to hook my air ride up to one of the screens which uses an app and bluetooth, as does my headlights but those are less important.

I believe your joke means suspenders and a belt at the same time, but yes it pretty much is because my units would work better than CarDongle or Carbotics but do not have the bluetooth connectivity that I need and am hoping one of them has
