Mike, I think you're correct with "suspenders and a belt". Maybe this is off-topic here, anyway I'll try to help you to fix your Bluetooth problem 😉:
Download the following programs from Playstore to your Joying unit(s). They helped me a lot of times when trying to connect unusual hardware/phones:
"Bluetooth Pair" by Manjul Saini (Start BLE Scan and try to connect)
"Bluetooth Visibility Fix" by minimalistDev
"Bluetooth Force Pin Pair" by Solvaig JSC (I use the registered version, worth the money if you're not able to input the correct PIN)
All these programs don't need a rooted device, so they should work out of the box. They worked for me and should work for you too. Your miles may vary, don't give up, they will fix your connection problems. Happy trying.
Bye for now Fred
PS: If it works for you I'm not going to say no if you want to buy me a beer 😉. Greetings from Germany
Hi I have your Carbotics CP2D-4G, 64GB and a BMW X3 (PC) Xdrive 20d Mh48v Xline FP (2021), but I'm not able to make Carbotics work.
Can you help me? In your compatibility list it written that it's supported.
Thanks
Thomas, not having a BMW X3 handy it's not easy to give advices. Anyway I'll try.
After connecting USB (ignition or auxiliary switched on) watch the two LEDs on Carbotics. If there are no LEDs visible there is a power supply problem.
If you see the two LEDs (red and blue) but nothing happens your head unit does not recognize the interface. This might be corrected in the settings of the head unit (you have to select Apple CarPlay). Just in case you already have connected your phone via CarPlay please remove these settings from your head unit. Most car systems can't accept two CarPlay connections at the same time. If Carbotics works for you you'll be rooting your phone via Carbotics.
Don't hesitate to provide more info and detailed descriptions what happens and we might be able to sort your problem.
Bye for now Fred
@thomas-b This is because although the bmw are included in the compatibility list, they are not compatible because they have wireless carplay, I also have a bmw, and only after buying carbotics did I discover that it can only serve me as a paperweight. Unfortunately this thing was not written on indiegogo and there is no way to be refunded, I am waiting for it, to try to resell it and get my money back
@quentin85 same problem! I'm frustrated about this because my car is in the compatibility list. Carbotics can you do something about this? @ap756 ?
@quentin85 Let me confirm if we have a wireless carplay solution.
Thanks!
Any news about wireless carplay solution?
@thomas-b as far as I understand the silightly confusing upgrade strategy of BMW to use Apple CarPlay you need the "Connected Package Plus" - 6C2 or the "Connected Package Professional" - 6C3/4 or the "Smartphone Integration" 6CP. If you got one of these you can connect an iPhone wirelessly. BUT connection of a wired phone/Carbotics is not implemented...
From technical point of view Carbotics should be able to connect to your BMW head unit (Bluetooth and WIFI), but has no screen and no keyboard and I suppose the BMW system is not clever enough to let you connect to Carbotics without waiting for a response you are not able to provide. As far as I know there is no working solution on the market to close this gap. By the way I won't buy a BMW just to prove the operation of this setup 😉.
I think your dreams (at least regarding Carbotics) won't come true right now, sorry. Maybe Carbotics will take this on the wish list for the next hardware iteration (not planned yet).
Bye for now Fred
@ap756 On the market there are a couple of systems similar to carbotics that exploit the same principle, but implement the connection with cars equipped with wireless carplay (bmw). One of these systems I know for sure worked, but probably due to some updates from bmw, many complain of constant disconnections. For the other system I have seen I have no feedback on how it works
Quentin, if you don't mind tell me the name of the working solution and - if possible - the BMW car, production year, multimedia system and probably the link where you got this information from. I'll happily investigate this.
Bye for now Fred
@quentin85 We will check for a BMW Solution. I believe our Non-4G model will work.... https://carbotics.net/product/carplay2droid/
Will confirm with our programmers in the morning.
Thanks!
If you feel like trading paper weights let me know, I have a Car Dongle to trade hahaha
Mike, if I remember right I asked you for sending this paperweight over to me a year ago. Make me an offer I can't refuse and we have a deal 😉.
Bye for now Fred
@quinten85 we've checked and we currently don't have a BMW solution. The currently solutions don't support enough models and the firmware isn't stable enough for us to release it. We'll make an announcement once we have a Beemer solution. Thanks!
