We're pleased to announce that we'll have a new FW release coming soon.

We're still testing it and our forum admin may release it once it is confirmed to be working fine.

Thanks!

Thanks Donny, downloaded the new firmware and installed. Following a short description how the update process works:

1. Download the new firmware to your computer (1,35 GB - 1.456.228.117 Bytes). For the time being use the link

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WF0negZeuSjvy0T7H1hmOyX-oPFTdTjB   (this might change in future)

Note (before somebody asks): Yes, if your CarBotics runs well and you are close to an open WLAN network you might download the file directly onto your CarBotics unit. But don't forget to move/copy this file to your SD card (see step 2) before you restart your CarBotics. Proceed with step 4

2. Copy the file update.zip to the root of your SD card (the SD card should be formatted in FAT32)

3. Insert this card into CarBotics and connect CarBotics to your car.

4. Switch on Auxiliary or Ignition (power on). CarBotics will start, will see the update.zip and will install it. Be sure ignition (auxiliary power) isn't switxhed off during the installation. During update CarBotics will reboot several times, just be patient and let the updater do it's work. After approx. 10-15 minutes CarBotics will be ready and you can enjoy the updated system.

At the time writing this short explanation there is no log file present, so I don't know what else is improved. What I see is that the system is more stable and the launcher responds much faster and accurate. So this update works for me (your miles may vary) and I can recommend it.

In any case, if you run into any trouble please let the forum know what you did (or did not do) and we will try to get your system up and running again.

Bye for now  Fred

@ap756 There are several people who followed the steps and now they have bricked devices. Did you experience this? How did you revive the unit?

Thanks!

Hi Donny, this is my third attempt to answer (something doesn't work correct on the forum),

I had no problems to update, all went smooth. Three possible reasons for a failure are power loss, SD card not formatted correctly to FAT32 or not enough patience.

I'd suggest to try it again with a freshly formatted SD card (FAT32) containing update.zip as only file. With enough patience (up to 20 minutes) and without power loss (if not sure run the engine in idle or use eternal power supply) the update should go through.

Bye for now. Fred

Here's a quick video tutorial of the upgrade process:

We used the same firmware file from Fred's link, so the firmware is confirmed to be working fine.

Firmware FILE Download: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WF0negZeuSjvy0T7H1hmOyX-oPFTdTjB?usp=sharing

Reminder, it may take up to 15 minutes to update. Do NOT unplug the power while it is upgrading or you may brick the unit.

Thanks!

Thanks Donny, couldn't resist to try the file from your download ( https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WF0negZeuSjvy0T7H1hmOyX-oPFTdTjB ) and can confirm it works (updated without problems).

Downloaded update.zip on my Windows PC, copied it to a SD card (formatted in FAT32), looked into the file using 7ZIP (just to confirm there is no fault), inserted the SD card into CarBotics, started the engine (to be sure to have no power dropout), connected Carbotics to the car and had a coffee (long wait, approx. 15 minutes). Returning to the car system was up and running.

Bye for now  Fred

PS: Forgot to mention! When the update finished remove the file update.zip from SD card - otherwise the software will be updated again after a restart!

Can't tell you about the update zip, but I can tell you that your problem is (most likely) related to  your Pioneer. Carbotics tries to be "the boss", but your Pioneer says "no". Call this an interference.

Probably the solution is: Fully remove your phone from settings, disable any auto start for phone connection or Autoplay for music. Connect Carbotics and (if it works now) connect any phone or music app to Carbotics, the new master unit. From now on your Pioneer has to be the slave.

Feedback is welcome 😉

Next to check if your Pioneer delivers enough power. Please connect Carbotics first to your Toyota and then to your Pioneer. Closely watch the behavior of the blue and red LED. Is there a difference? Probably you can make a short video.

There are lots of reasons why it doesn't work. Because it works with your Toyota I think the problem is within your Pioneer, but you newer know ...

Hopefully @Donny can jump in and can give you better support/better strategy to solve this problem.

Bye for now  Fred

yes, it may be an issue with Pioneer compatability.

Regarding Carplay, you need to exit it before connecting to Wifi. Here is a video tutorial.

Connecting to Wifi (need to exit Carplay first):

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qMQL0bD4PcLN3xuXSgaaYS4xRonN_iiQ/view?usp=sharing

I think maybe try configuring the Carbotics on your PC ( https://carbotics.net/community/compatibility/prove-of-concept-carbotics-running-on-a-pc/#post-80   ) or on your Toyota, then try it again on your Pioneer.

Lastly, if you do try the firmware update, make sure not to unplug the unit from the power supply until the update is totally finished (DO NOT unplug until update is finished). The process can take up to 20 minutes. Removing the power before the update is finished could make your unit unresponsive.

Hope these Tips and Fred's above tips help!

Brilliant idea to measure the power output. 1,6 Ampere are way enough (the unit needs just 1 A), you have to blame Pioneer for their "not so perfect" implementation of Apple CarPlay...

In case you want to try more power (even if this is not necessary as long as the 1,6 Ampere is constant without dropouts) try a cable like this:

We've upgraded the PCBA and firmware for the CP2D-4g that we'll be shipping out in March:

The latest version will fix many of the issues reported in the prototype model.

Thanks!

@admin

Hi,

I received the carplay2droid 4g on March 16th, as I wrote in the forum, the connection with my car does not work.

I was wondering if the device already mounts the new firmware.

The serial is 210600100.

I am always waiting for a response from the assistance.

Thanks

Francesco, unfortunately the serial number isn't enough to determine the firmware. From delivery date I suppose you run APM888-EAU-01 dated 16.02.2022 (you can check in your friends car in settings). @Donny announced a new firmware (didn't see or could test it yet) which is different from your delivery firmware. This is work in process and hopefully we will have results soon.

Bye for now  Fred

@prospero0 Hello, you units comes with a different firmware which is already updated.  You will need to connect to your PC first, then try to replug into your car stereo.

Then try plugging into car.

This is a proven way to make sure your CP2D-4g can work.
